The idea behind PayMeTweets.

1) To give Twitterers a Twitter-like interface to advertise on or make money from Twitter. Keep it easy. Keep it quick. Keep it Twitter-like.

2) To allow Twitterers a way to do the above without giving up control of their tweet streams. To this end, PayMeTweets uses Twitter OAuth and sponsored tweets are only inserted in any tweet stream when a member RTs it.

3) To give advertisers an inexpensive alternative. PayMeTweets is the least expensive way to advertise on Twitter.

There is a lot of fuss about whether Twitterers should insert sponsored tweets in their streams to make money. Most of the negative opinions are driven by blogs and bloggers that have plenty of paid advertising on their sites.
